LoL Patch 26.16: Riot Attacks Support Roaming Meta, 27 ADCs Get MR Buff, Jungle Diversifies

League of Legends Patch 26.16 went live on August 11, 2026, and it arrives with a clear editorial direction from Riot: the support roaming meta that has shaped both solo queue and competitive play for months is getting taxed harder, mage bot-laners are being pulled back, and 27 ADC champions are getting a universal base magic resistance buff to compensate. At the same time, Sundered Sky nerfs and jungle pet scaling improvements push the jungle meta away from AD bruiser dominance. Faerie Court Bel'Veth, Gwen, and Lulu go on sale today, August 12.

Patch 26.16 changes overview by Skill Capped Challenger LoL Guides (August 7, 2026)

The Support Problem: Why Riot Stepped In

Riot's patch notes are unusually direct about what prompted this batch of changes.

"Recently we've been seeing increased support roaming really early into the game, to the point where they seem to be operating as a second jungler. While this may be interesting as a strategic option, we feel it is damaging to game integrity when it's the default approach and supports are no longer meaningfully participating in a lane." — Riot wroadie, Riot Cashmiir, Riot sternest, Riot Yina

The root cause is a compounding feedback loop: early-roaming supports enable snowball kills for mid lane or top, generating enough gold to outpace the in-lane penalty from the Role Quest, and the enemy ADC is left in a 1v2 lane with no recourse. That's no longer a viable risk calculation after this patch.

"Mages are picking up as a prominent class selection in bot lane in both pro and regular play. While they've been niche but powerful picks for a long time, both from your feedback and the stats, it's clear that it's time for some adjustments to equalize the power here a bit between mages and ADCs." — Riot wroadie et al.

The two quotes together explain why the ADC MR buff exists: it's partly a direct counter to mage bot laners' magic-damage output, not just a class-wide rehabilitation.

Role Quest Changes: Support Roaming Costs More, for Longer

StatBeforeAfter
Gold/XP penalty outside bot lane−25% (until level 3)−33% (until level 5)
Champion/turret stack consumption2218
CS stack consumption1521

Two separate levers move at once. The penalty grows from 25% to 33%, and the protection window extends from level 3 to level 5 — meaning roughly the first five to seven minutes of the game. Supports who want to path top-side before the mid-game now face a larger and longer economic cost that makes the risk-reward calculus clearly negative unless the roam produces a kill.

Stack equalization — champion/turret stacks down from 22 to 18, CS stacks up from 15 to 21 — closes a loophole that let aggressive roaming supports offset their penalty by spiking on champion takedowns.

27 ADC Champions: Universal Magic Resistance Buff

Every traditional AD carry in the game receives a base MR increase of 3.

StatBeforeAfter
Base MR (26 champions)3033
MR growth per level1.31.1
Tristana base MR2833

All 27 affected champions: Akshan, Aphelios, Ashe, Caitlyn, Corki, Draven, Ezreal, Graves, Jhin, Jinx, Kai'Sa, Kalista, Kindred, Kog'Maw, Lucian, Miss Fortune, Quinn, Samira, Senna, Sivir, Smolder, Twitch, Varus, Vayne, Xayah, Yunara, Zeri

The per-level growth drops from 1.3 to 1.1, so the gap narrows in the late game. The practical effect is a meaningful early lane advantage: 3 extra MR reduces incoming magic damage by roughly 2.1–2.5% at level 1 against a mage with standard magic penetration runes, which can mean the difference between a level-3 kill and surviving to back. Team Liquid's mid laner Morgan told Daily e-Sports before the patch: mages have been ahead in every lane matchup metric, and this is a necessary correction.

The Camille changes are a clean positional redesign: the early passive shield — the main reason she worked as a level-1-and-2 support — scales down from 20% flat to 10% at level 1. Top lane Camille stays effective late; support Camille does not survive the laning phase punishment.

Sundered Sky loses 2% of its missing HP healing — a number that looks small but compounds over extended fights. The compensatory +50 HP does not make up the healing loss for sustained-combat junglers. This is the item that defined AD bruiser jungle for most of Season 26, and its nerf is specifically intended to make AP and tank jungle options comparatively stronger without a direct buff to every AP or tank item.

Jungle Pet Scaling: Opening the Door for Variety

AP scaling12% AP16% AP
Armor scaling20% bonus armor25% bonus armor
MR scaling20% bonus MR25% bonus MR
HP scaling3% bonus HP4% bonus HP
AD scaling10% bonus ADUnchanged

AP gains a 4% absolute jump (the largest change in the table), while tank stats improve by 5%. AD stays flat. Combined with Sundered Sky's nerf, this is Riot's two-pronged approach to jungle meta diversity: tax the dominant build path and raise the floor for alternatives simultaneously. Expect Amumu, Ekko, Maokai, and similar champs to become more cost-efficient options in competitive drafts by the next major tournament.

Faerie Court Skins — Available Now

Three skins launch today alongside the patch:

SkinChampion
Faerie Court Bel'VethBel'Veth
Faerie Court GwenGwen
Faerie Court LuluLulu

Bel'Veth is being nerfed this patch while getting a new skin — a common Riot timing practice that occasionally generates community irony. Gwen, on the other hand, receives meaningful healing buffs in the same patch as her new cosmetic, so the skin drops at a moment when the champion is becoming stronger.

League Classic: Akali, Kennen, Shen Added

The retro alternate mode picks up three champions this patch, each with their legacy kits:

ChampionLegacy kit highlight
AkaliOld W invisibility shroud, 3-charge dash ultimate
KennenClassic energy-based kit
ShenOld Vorpal Blade + ally passive healing

All three were cornerstones of high-elo play during their respective peak eras. Akali's old W in particular returns a mechanic removed for competitive integrity reasons — its presence in Classic mode means experienced players can rediscover the original counterplay experience.

Community Reaction

Reaction across Western and Korean communities follows a similar split. The support roaming nerf is broadly welcomed as overdue, with most criticism focused on whether the numbers go far enough rather than whether the direction is correct. The ADC MR buff generates more debate: 3 points of base MR is a modest number, and skeptics question whether it matters against mage burst combos that one-shot before resistances are relevant. The consensus from higher-elo players is that it matters most in extended trades and lane survival, not in all-in scenarios.

The Camille support nerf is the most discussed single change, largely because Camille support has been a recurring frustration for bot-lane players across all skill levels — a champion designed for a specific role performing competitively in another with few reliable counters.

What to Expect in Competitive Play

Patch 26.16 takes effect for LCS Summer and LEC playoffs preparation. The support meta shift is the change teams will need to scout hardest: roaming supports have been a cornerstone of several top-tier team compositions, and the penalty increase removes the option as a default first move. Expect tighter bot-lane leash play in the next tournament cycle.

The jungle item change may take longer to show up in professional play — competitive teams are conservative with meta pivots unless the numbers clearly favor alternatives. If AP and tank junglers post competitive win rates in solo queue over the next two weeks, expect them to appear in pro drafts around the next patch window.

GamePeak summary: Patch 26.16 is live. Support roaming now costs more gold and XP for longer. 27 ADCs get +3 base MR. Sundered Sky heals less; jungle pets scale harder for AP/tank junglers. Faerie Court skins for Bel'Veth, Gwen, and Lulu are on sale today.
