Farewell, Guardian — Patch 9.7.0 Is Destiny 2's Last Major Update
June 9, 2026 — Bungie released Destiny 2 Update 9.7.0, confirmed as the game's final major patch. While small maintenance patches and hotfixes may still come, the era of planned live-service content updates for Destiny 2 is officially over.
The development team addressed players directly in the patch notes:
""Hey, all. Welcome to our final patch notes article for Destiny 2. Well, that's a bit of a fib. We'll still have a few maintenance patches and smaller hotfixes after today... but this is our final major patch for Destiny 2."

- ▶A new Title and armor ornament set is permanently available
Crucially, the Monument of Triumph will remain in Destiny 2 indefinitely after Update 9.7.0 — there is no expiration date.

What happens during a Distortion:
- ▶Enemies in the area become visually different and harder

- ▶Players completing public events during a Distortion earn higher-level gear than usual
- ▶Some special Distortion events reward unique items
- ▶Current location and remaining time visible on the Destinations screen
