Twelve Years, One Last Update
On June 9, 2026, Bungie deployed Patch 9.7.0 — Monument of Triumph, the final planned live-service content update for Destiny 2. In a blog post titled "Every End is a New Beginning," Bungie's development team wrote:
""For almost twelve years, we have had the joy and honor to explore the Destiny universe with you all. Though active development may be concluding, we will ensure that Destiny 2 remains playable, just as the original Destiny is today."
— Bungie
What followed is one of the most substantial single updates the game has ever received: over 1,400 changes, 17,000+ words of patch notes, new permanent activities, returned fan favorites, and sandbox additions that many players had been requesting for years.

What Happens to Destiny 2 Now?
Destiny 2 remains playable after live-service development ends. Bungie has committed to keeping the game online, maintaining the API, and the official Companion App. Active development resources at Bungie now shift fully to Marathon, the studio's extraction-shooter that needs significant polish and player growth before it can claim the legacy of Destiny.
