Story — The Hiss Has Left the Oldest House

Years after Jesse Faden defeated the Hiss and became director of the Federal Bureau of Control, the threat has broken containment. A new form of resonance — alongside the Hiss and the Mold — is now warping Manhattan, reshaping reality across the city.

This time, you play as Dylan Faden, Jesse's brother, who spent most of the first game imprisoned. Jesse is missing. Dylan must step into a role he was never prepared for: humanity's last line of defense.

Remedy's Mikael Kasurinen wrote in the announcement post:

"

"In Resonant, we go further into the Fadens' complicated past. Their lives have been anything but easy, and the cost of what they carry is about to come due. What lies ahead will push them further than either has gone before." — Mikael Kasurinen, Remedy Entertainment

The GameTrailers synopsis describes the setup: "Jesse Faden fought the Hiss as the newly-christened head of the Federal Bureau of Control, and now her brother Dylan has awakened from his long slumber. The Hiss has broken containment, escaping the confines of the Oldest House. Dylan may have been a tool of the Hiss, but now he must take the fight to them to save what's left of Manhattan... and our reality."

About CONTROL (2019) — Context for New Players

CONTROL (2019) is a third-person action-adventure set inside the Federal Bureau of Control — a secret U.S. government agency hidden in a New York skyscraper called the Oldest House. Jesse Faden arrives looking for her brother Dylan (imprisoned there since childhood) and accidentally becomes the FBC's new Director, inheriting a weapon called the Service Weapon that only she can wield.

  • Metacritic: PC 87 / PS4 85 / Xbox One 85
  • Awards: BAFTA, D.I.C.E., and more
  • Alan Wake 2 connection: CONTROL is part of Remedy's shared universe

CONTROL Resonant is designed to be accessible to newcomers, but playing the original first will significantly enhance the story impact.

The Remedy Connected Universe

CONTROL Resonant is a key pillar in Remedy's shared fiction:

TitleConnection
CONTROL (2019)Direct prequel
Alan Wake 2 (2023)Jesse and Alan's universes collide, Oldest House referenced
CONTROL: AWE DLCThe first bridge between the two franchises

Community Reaction

Response to the State of Play reveal was strongly positive. Reddit's r/gaming and r/controlgame lit up with comments like "Remedy might actually top Alan Wake 2 with this one" and "Dylan as protagonist is the right call — he's been the most interesting character in the lore."

The reveal comes after Alan Wake 2's critical and commercial success cemented Remedy as one of the most exciting narrative-driven studios in the industry. Expectations for Resonant are high.

Who Should Pre-Order Now

  • Fans of CONTROL (2019): This is the direct payoff to Dylan's story
  • Alan Wake 2 fans: Same universe, same Remedy storytelling DNA
  • Anyone who wants early access: Deluxe Edition's 48-hour head start is significant

GamePeak Verdict

CONTROL Resonant is one of 2026's most anticipated releases. Remedy's track record since Alan Wake 2 is impeccable, and shifting the protagonist to Dylan Faden — long the most intriguing piece of the lore — is exactly the kind of creative move that separates Remedy from the pack. The September 24 launch gives the industry a major narrative event before GTA 6 dominates year-end conversation. Put in a preorder if the early access matters to you.
