The Award-Winning JRPG of 2024 Is Finally Coming to Xbox and Switch 2
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth arrives on Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2 on June 3, 2026 — the last major platforms left to receive Square Enix's acclaimed sequel to the FF7 Remake project.
The game originally launched on PS5 in February 2024, then hit PC (Steam and Epic Games Store) in January 2025. With this June 3 release, FF7 Rebirth will be playable across every current-generation platform. The Xbox version includes Xbox Play Anywhere and Xbox Cloud Gaming support, making it immediately accessible to Game Pass Ultimate subscribers via streaming.
What Is Final Fantasy VII Rebirth?
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is the second entry in the FF7 Remake trilogy, following Cloud Strife, Tifa Lockhart, Barret Wallace, Aerith Gainsborough, and Red XIII as they escape the dystopian city of Midgar and pursue the enigmatic Sephiroth across a vast and vibrant planet.
It was one of the most critically decorated games of 2024 — and it still holds up.

Why This Is a Big Deal — 125 Perfect Scores
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth wasn't just well-received in 2024 — it was a phenomenon. The numbers speak for themselves:
- ▶125+ perfect review scores from outlets worldwide
- ▶40+ Game of the Year awards
- ▶Praised for its vast open world, deep combat system, and emotionally resonant storytelling

Players who skipped the PS5 or PC versions now have their chance to experience one of the decade's defining JRPGs.
""Cannot believe FF7 Rebirth is actually coming to Switch 2. I assumed it would need serious downgrades but apparently they pulled it off." — r/NintendoSwitch2 user vii_believer
""The Xbox Play Anywhere is huge. Play on the couch on Series X, continue on PC while traveling. This is how multiplatform should work." — r/XboxSeriesX user cloud_strife_main
""Two of the three remake trilogy entries are now playable on Switch 2. Just waiting on the third announcement at this point." — r/FinalFantasy user aerith_lives
The Switch 2 Physical Edition — Limited MTG Card
The Nintendo Switch 2 version is available as both digital and physical. First-print physical copies include a Magic: The Gathering — FINAL FANTASY "Zack Fair" card, featuring exclusive variant art drawn personally by series creator Tetsuya Nomura. Supplies are limited and tied to the initial production run.
This is part of an ongoing collaboration between Square Enix and Wizards of the Coast on the Magic: The Gathering FINAL FANTASY crossover set.
The Magic: The Gathering "Zack Fair" Nomura variant card is exclusive to first-print physical copies of the Nintendo Switch 2 version. Once initial stock is gone, subsequent pressings will not include it. Reserve a physical copy early if you want it.
Why Now? Setting the Stage for Part Three
Square Enix has confirmed the third and final entry in the FF7 Remake trilogy is in active development. The simultaneous push to bring both Remake Intergrade and Rebirth to every current platform is clearly designed to ensure no player is left behind before the conclusion arrives.
Xbox players who have never touched the remake project now have access to both parts. Switch 2 owners can pick up the first entry (Remake Intergrade) and this second chapter on a single device. By the time Part Three releases, the full trilogy should be available across all platforms.
GamePeak Take
If you own an Xbox or Nintendo Switch 2 and have been waiting to play one of the best JRPGs of the last five years, June 3 is your date. The 20% Xbox pre-order discount makes this an easy decision before June 10. Play the free demo now to verify performance and get a taste of the combat before committing. FF7 Rebirth is the rare game that fully justified its two-year wait for additional ports — the scope, depth, and craft are extraordinary.
