Square Enix Adds Korean to FFT: The Ivalice Chronicles
Square Enix has officially announced that Final Fantasy Tactics – The Ivalice Chronicles will receive Korean language text support on June 17, 2026, delivered as a free update. Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese text support will also be added simultaneously.
The game launched September 30, 2025 across all major platforms without Korean support, frustrating fans in South Korea who had long awaited a proper localized version of the beloved 1997 classic. That gap is now being closed — and existing owners won't have to pay a cent extra.

About the Game — A Legend Returns After 28 Years
Final Fantasy Tactics originally launched for PlayStation in 1997 and is widely regarded as one of the finest tactical RPGs ever made. Its combination of a politically layered narrative, deep character-driven story, and intricate grid-based combat set a benchmark that the genre still references today.
The Ivalice Chronicles is far more than a simple port. Square Enix rebuilt the experience around modern standards while preserving everything that made the original special.

Gameplay Reveal Trailer
Story — The Hidden History of Ivalice
Final Fantasy Tactics tells the story of Ramza Beoulve, a young knight of noble birth, and his childhood friend Delita, as they're swept into the chaos of a kingdom at war with itself. On the surface, it looks like a battle for succession. In truth, it's a web of noble intrigue, church conspiracy, and secret societies.
The game's central theme has always been about the people history forgets — the real heroes who shaped the world but were never written into the records. That idea lands just as powerfully in 2026 as it did in 1997.
""The true heroes of history go unrecorded. Final Fantasy Tactics – The Ivalice Chronicles reveals the truth." — Official description
Combat System — Grid Tactics at Its Deepest
| System | Description |
|---|---|
| Grid-Based Combat | Terrain elevation and positioning are decisive |
| Job System | Dozens of classes from Knight to Time Mage |
| Ability Mixing | Equip skills from secondary jobs onto your main |
| Guest Characters | Story-driven party members join and leave |
| Random Battles | Field encounters keep you leveled for story fights |
The depth of the Job System remains one of the most impressive ever designed for the genre. Combining abilities from different classes opens up strategies that players are still discovering today, nearly three decades after the original release.

Why This Matters
Final Fantasy Tactics has one of the most dedicated fan communities in gaming history — people who have replayed it dozens of times, who still debate optimal job combinations, and who hold its story in the same regard as the greatest narrative games ever made.
For Korean players, the June 17 update removes the last barrier between them and one of gaming's genuine masterworks. Whether you're a longtime fan finally getting the language support you deserved, or a newcomer drawn in by the announcement — Ivalice is waiting.
